When
children are having fun in an activity, they're likely to get more
involved, pay closer attention, learn in more detail, and experience
amazing results due to their efforts. Reading is no different. Children
who enjoy reading are likely to read more often, attempt more difficult
reading levels, talk about their books, and learn something about a
wide variety of subjects.
Reading to a dog is also
an excellent way to relax. Children realize their furry friend will
not criticize them if they stumble over a new word. They know they
won't be judged if they don't understand the meaning of a word and that
the dog won't laugh at them if they are reading quite slowly. When
children relax and stop worrying, they can read better and don't mind
practicing more. The more they read, the better they become at reading.
Therapy dogs can help children learn to read, and love to read.
