Storytime starts at a very young age

Reading Education Assistance Dogs®, also known as R.E.A.D.®, is a program of Intermountain Therapy Animals, and its mission is to improve the literacy skills of children through the assistance of registered Pet Partner® therapy teams as literacy mentors.

The scope of the R.E.A.D. program is to demonstrate how registered therapy dogs and their handlers can be instrumental in improving the literacy skills of children in an effective, unique, and most importantly, fun manner.

From coast to coast and in other countries, too, children are practicing their literacy skills while reading to dogs. Click on the names below and read some stories about just a few of those wonderful dogs. You'll find they have varied interests and activities, and they keep quite busy in addition to their reading programs. Truly, they are all-around dogs.
