PollyAnna is an English Bulldog. A medium-sized dog, Bulldogs are not your typical lap dog, but they would like to be! They are one of the most popular breeds, according to AKC® Registration Statistics, and make excellent family pets because of their tendency to form strong bonds with children.

Time out for a perfect pose.
They’re believed to have originated in the British Isles, and the name "bull" was applied because of the dog’s connection with bull baiting. When dog fighting became illegal in England, people who loved the breed worked to preserve it by eliminating the fierce characteristics. Today’s Bulldogs are typically gentle and protective, kind and courageous (not vicious or aggressive), and they have adorable wrinkles.

Bulldogs love people
and the attention people give them.
PollyAnna was born in 2005. She was registered with the Delta Society for two years, and is currently with Love on a Leash. She and her human partner, Angela, have also been a Reading Education Assistance Dog team since 2007. PollyAnna and Angela are scheduled to do two "PAWS to READ" sessions at a local library in July 2009. The program they did last summer was so much fun, Angela was actually inspired to write a book. The result was that PollyAnna, with Angela’s permission and help, wrote PollyAnna’s Words of Wisdom.

PollyAnna's book is dedicated
to therapy dogs everywhere.
This is a great book for R.E.A.D.® teams. It is a colorful book with simple poetry and lots of photographs. The children visiting PollyAnna especially love having a book about the dog they are reading with.
