Diego is a Boxer. Boxers are related to dog breeds no longer in existence but that were known throughout Europe during the 16th century. Although they were developed and perfected in Germany and were one of the first breeds selected in Germany for police training, the Boxer is also descended from an old fighting dog of the high valleys of Tibet.
The Boxer is a handsome breed, extremely intelligent and trainable, with a high desire to please. This is a breed that should have both mental and physical exercise every day. They are quite playful, yet patient around children, and with their easy-care coats and loyal affection, they can be a wonderful companion for an active family.
Born in 2007, Diego is quite young in these pictures, but within his first two years he and his owner, Lori, had already become a registered therapy team. When she saw him as a tiny puppy, Lori knew right away he had the perfect temperament for therapy work. They trained throughout his first year and then began visiting hospice patients and nursing homes. She says Diego LOVES children, and in addition to their therapy work they completed the R.E.A.D.®. training in 2009.

Diego has found a fascinating book.
Is he trying to copy his human friends?
Boxers are noted to have a great love of people, but they also get along well with other pets. Typical of his breed, Diego happily shares his world with Lori and her husband, their three children, and many other animals.
